Will my dad be able to leave that license plate so I won%26#039;t need to buy a new one? He%26#039;s got a company vehicle for himself so he doesn%26#039;t need one. I live in Florida. Reply:call the local dmv and tell them you need to know how much it will cost to transfer the title to your name and get current registration. they will ask how much you%26#039;re paying for it and where you live. inside city limits or out as tax rates will be different
Reply:In most states, transfers within the immediate family don%26#039;t have to pay sales tax. The only real fees may be smog test, title in your name and any ad val taxes the state may have (although they usually aren%26#039;t due until your next birthday). I would guess the total at less than $100.
