Where do you need to get your tags and title if you are licensed in Ohio and stationed in Washington?

My friend is currently deployed and plans on getting a new truck when he gets back in the states. He is from Ohio and is stationed in Washington. His driver license is in Ohio but plans on buying the vehicle in Washington. Where does he need to get his plates and register the title at and can he get them in Washington if he doesn%26#039;t have a license for that state?

I%26#039;m trying to help him out as much as possible since he doesn%26#039;t have much access to the internet and phone while he%26#039;s away.

A service member has the option of registering a vehicle in their home state of record, or in the state where they are stationed.

This means that your friend can register the truck in either Washington, or in Ohio. As a service member, he can keep his license in his home state of record no matter where he chooses to register the vehicle. His choice should be based on the tax rate, and the cost of tags in each state. Wherever he can pay less is where he should register the vehicle.

Thank your friend for his service!
