Make sure you get insurance or renew it. however make sure the insurance is covered in the state of LA. you have to first to get a license in LA before you can register your car and get new tags. to register your car go to the dmv (department of motor vehicles) present insurance card. for your license you have to proof of residency such as electric bill or lease. license card is probably $25. registration is probably between $150-$200. where i live i have to get a parking permit so depending on the area you might need to get that too.

if you%26#039;re a college student and you only moved because of school you can get a temporary card saying you%26#039;re only there for school and will be moving back after graduation.
Reply:call the louisiana dmv or go online and see what they say

Reply:You are now a resident of Louisiana. Just register and insure your car there.

PS: By California law, you%26#039;re supposed to sent the license plates back to the DMV. The Louisiana DMV may do this for you.
Reply:go get Insurance, then go get the tags from Louisiana. Keep them both payed up so you don%26#039;t have to go though this again.
Reply:call and get insurance, its going to be high because you didnt have any but i didnt have any for three years and never got caught but its really not a good thing but do what you have to, but just call and start getting things straight thats all you can do
Reply:Just start at the beginning. Get the car registered at the DMV and get insurance. Your rates will be higher because you had a gap in your coverage.
Reply:maybe esurance!
Reply:Since you%26#039;re in a new area check out the rates that they have from different providers for insurance. Every area is different. Here%26#039;s a site that gives you very good competitive pricing from providers in your area.

Reply:Go to the local DMV, and they will give you a temporary until you get a regular registration. Contact your insurance company and get the insurance started back up.

Not too much work.
Reply:Go find a mechanic and tell him you need a mechanical waiver for your expired registration...then go get your car registered...for insurance...use Geico or Progressive to get the best rates...make sure your drivers license is changed to Louisiana as well...
