When you go to walmart and you go to the self checkout, how are the security tags deactivated?

Some items have security tags that trip the alarm if not scanned.. Is it deactivated when you rub it over the thing next to the scanner or when its actually scanned and shows up on the screen

When you go to walmart and you go to the self checkout, how are the security tags deactivated?
The unit that does the deactivating must reside in the stand just below the bags. That is likely the reason why they say to put each item in the bag after scanning. I tried setting something on the floor after scanning one time, and the supervisor told me it had to go in the bag.
Reply:We don%26#039;t have ours anymore, but I used to use them a lot when we did.

If you purchase something, like a CD or electronic that needs to be deactivated, after you scan the item, it will tell you on the screen to put the item on the %26quot;star.%26quot; That was what it was when I was using it. I think it would be deactivated only by touching the star, but the computer would speak to you if you have not scanned it.

There is also another feature that estimates weight of each item so it knows if you have added that additional item into the bagging area, which may talk to you if you don%26#039;t do it. You can skip bagging (like for example large items) a few times, but do it too many times and it will freeze.

It also estimates so sometimes it may be wrong and tell you you forgot to scan something (when it is a heavy item), or it may tell you that you did not bag the item (when it is too light). That has happened a lot to me.

I think the reason why they discontinued it where we live because it would freeze A LOT and it would scan extremely slow.
