How to do you transport a newly purchased car to the DMV for tags?

I am buying a car 70 miles away from another person (a private sale - not a dealership). I live in PA on the NJ border and the guy is in NY. It seems like a dumb **** thing to do to drive the thing down the NJ Turnpike with no tag. What is the right thing to do in this instance?? Thanks.

You can purchase a trip permit, from the DMV. Costs vary state to state, but I would think 20bucks would cover it.
Reply:Go to the PA DMV and see if they will give you a temporary tag to use to get the car to PA. Good luck
Reply:ask your insurance company. there is usually a couple of days allowance , but check because from state to state, the rules could be different.

Reply:As long as you have proof of insurance you should be able to get a temp tag. I don%26#039;t live in PA or NJ but in CT the car does not have to be present for registering: unless it needs an inspection.
Reply:you might have to register the car and get the plates before you can move the car. the car does not have to be there to do that good luck.
