These name tags need to be in the shape of beetles, and be wearable, and sturdy, but not bulky.
I need to make beetle name tags for a Boy Scout troop. Any suggestions?
You can go to the scrapbook store and use the die-cut machine for free if you purchase paper there. They will have a %26quot;bug%26quot; die cut available to use. Cut them out and add a backing of your choice. Embellish the edges with a black marker (trace around the edges or something like that). You may also be able to use chipboard in the die-cut machine - but you have to ask first.
Another option is finding die-cuts pre-packaged. They will have them in a heavy paper stock and you just attach the backing of your choice.
Here is a link to show metal clip embellishments, I thought you could use these and use two magnets as the holders. One on each side of the fabric, then there aren%26#039;t any pins. http://store.scrapbook.com/kc-577015.htm... (You can use magnets also on the paper ones if you like too.)
Only other thing I can think of is to use woodworking biscuits. They are cheap, lightweight and resemble bug bodies and wings. Here is a link to show them: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=...
You can easily glue them together and paint with acrylic paint to decorate.
Best of luck!
Reply:Youse nicknames.
Reply:Use flat wooden ovals (found in craft wood at the hobby store) and paint or woodburn a beetle design (looks like a %26quot;T%26quot; and would be the head and wings of the beetle). You%26#039;d want to paint them brown or black, though, so they wouldn%26#039;t look like ladybugs. Then use a white paint pen to write names. Either glue to a pin back (found in jewelry making at the hobby store) or drill a hole and string a lanyard cord through it.
Reply:It depends on the cost factor. You would need poster board or construction paper as a backing, a black permanent small tip marker. Go to an office supply store like Office Depot and purchase the clear plastic name tag badges. These come with pins on the back to attach to the shirt. On Google images you can find and print the pictures of beetles. You could use all the same beetle or different beetles to make it interesting. Use the black marker to draw the names, either on the beetle%26#039;s back or below the beetle on the colored paper. When dry insert into the plastic holders. You could then cut around the beetle to fit the shape and use tape to hold the two pieces together. Or, just glue the images on to the half of the plastic that has the pin for attaching. This would be an excellent project for the boys to do at meeting. Good Luck
