How do I submit a website and get results? Do Meta tags and Keywords really work in a webpage code?

I had submitted a website with key words in Meta Tags. I also submitted the website to different search engines with the website description and keywords. I only see the website in a couple of Directory Listings with no website link. Such as the Yellow Page Directory Listing. Please could someone help me with this problem? Thank you.

The Yahoo! search engine does use meta tags, but Google doesn%26#039;t. The most important Keywords in Google are the ones that are used to link to your page from another page or the ones in the title. Each search engine has their own way of deciding which webpages to index and how to rank them, so you may have to try asking about that specific search engine or browse the help pages there. (I%26#039;ve included the more helpful Yahoo! Seach links below.)

And remember that it usually takes a few weeks (sometimes longer) before new sites appear in the listings so if you%26#039;ve just recently submitted you may have to be patient still.

Reply:The best search engines are trying to get away from meta tags because people aren%26#039;t very good about putting in their meta tags what is actually on the page. Now search engines try to determine the content of your page and match searches to the actual content. Advanced search engines like Google also check how %26quot;linked%26quot; you are--whether others are linking to you and if you are linking to others.
