How do leased owner operators transfer or get their own registration and tags for interstate transporting?

Will be changing companies. New company requires I have my own tags or IRP. (I got all of my insurances and registrations through the company I%26#039;m currently leased with and did not have to do this.) I don%26#039;t have my own authority currently so I need some guidance. Also, need to know of a grood resource for owner operators.

I am part owner of a truck reporting service in Boise, ID - Truckers Reporting Serivce, Inc. To my knowledge you must obtain your own authority. Feds charge $300 plus you have to order a BMC91X form (process agents). Once you have established your auth., you can register under your own company name. If you%26#039;d like more info, call us 208-376-4602 and ask for a Mike Jr., or contact your local state D.O.T. office.
Reply:In Ohio you simply take the truck title and/or registration to the Deputy Registrar BMV and purchase new tags. Anyone that you actually lease to should be providing you with authority otherwise you wouldn%26#039;t need them. You could secure your own loads.
