Why do some stores refuse to put price tags on their items?

Like I walk into stores like MAC cosmetics or Harry Rosen and none of their items have a price on them. How am I supposed to know how much they cost?! Sure I can ask the sales people but why do they do that? Why can't they just stick on a price?!

Why do some stores refuse to put price tags on their items?
Well I believe they do this as not to cover the product that they are selling with a piece of paper. I have also noticed that a lot of times when something is expensive they usually don't put a price tag either this could be because they do not want to discourage the shopper from buying that object, because once you get to the front desk you would feel kinda silly telling them you couldn't buy it because it costs too much even though you had enough money but didn't think it was a reasonable price. Or it could be a way just to save time, because imagine how much time it must take the workers to put a price tag on every single object.

It´s basically a marketing technique. I don't agree with it either.
Reply:so if u ask, its like mean of them! that makes no sense, but wen u ask, they sales ppl start one of those conversations that never end and u they tell u all the stuff about the product and ask question like wat r u lookin 4 or ur not sure? i'll show u around and all that crap so in the end, u HAVE to buy something!
Reply:it's a huge selling ploy. once they know you're interested, they'll try to talk you into buying.

i refuse to shop in stores like that!
Reply:Some stores do that so they can charge what they want according to the circumstances at hand. It is not ethical, but some stores do this.
Reply:Because they think you will be more likely to buy it if you have to ask for the price.
Reply:cause MAC has expensive stuff and they know if yall see the price yallmay not buy it. i guess. i ammaking a a guess
