should I get temp license plates when picking up the car? Im buying it from a private seller.

How do I get tags for a used car?
If possible get a temporary tag, but you should have 30 days from the date of purchase to obtain a license plate from the DMV. You will need to be able to produce a bill of sale / title and valid insurance for the vehicle if you are pulled over and when you get the title transferred to you and get a real plate from the DMV.

Reply:You have to go down to the DMV with your papers. They should be able to tell you what you have to do. I do know that you have to get a transfer of ownership.

Reply:If the tabs are expired, you will need to get a trip permit to drive the car to the DMV for title transfer.
