Why can't those tags be removed from comforters, blankets and such?

Its something i've always wondered about it. It says about a federal law.

Why can't those tags be removed from comforters, blankets and such?
Years ago people marketed blankets and mattresses as new but they weren't. We are talking a hundred years ago, etc. They would not use 'all new material' in the mattresses. It was a major problem. So the governement passed a law requiring them to have labels which proved to the consumer the materials complied with the laws of all new materials and marked down what materials were used. This is also important for people with allergies, etc. That is how those tags got started. It made it illegal for the seller to remove the tags. Because they were certifitied consumers could relax that what they were buying was all new materials.
Reply:It says what materials the item is made of and needs to be there for disposable reasons.
Reply:Please re read the tags, some of them, only the consumer (the one who bought the product-can remove the tags. Otherwise, by federal law, probably because of the information listed on the tag.
Reply:The tags are to show the consumer what the mattresses are made of. They are ridiculous, but tear the damn thing off!!!!
Reply:you, the consumer, can remove the tag if you want to. The retailers are not allowed to do so because it contains information about the product.
Reply:You - as the end-consumer - can remove them. They cannot be remove by wholesalers or retailers because they contain information that may be important to someone's health if they have allergies.
Reply:The tags can be removed by the consumer. That is you who bought them. The point is for the tags to stay on until they reach you. Police will not beat down your door for taking the tags off. Get out your scissors and go to town. I used to wonder about that too, another is the tag on the hair dryer. That serves a little more purpose though. It is a reminder of how dangerous electric devices and water are in combination.
